Guides / Project preparation
Preparing your home for a painting quote
Make your next conversation useful. Prepare the details that help define a clear, project-specific scope.
List rooms and surfaces
Record the rooms, approximate wall areas and ceiling heights. Identify trim, doors, cabinets and ceilings separately. Note peeling, staining, cracks or patched areas so preparation can be discussed before choosing a finish.
Agree on preparation
Ask who moves furniture, protects floors, removes hardware and repairs surfaces. A quote should explain cleaning, sanding, patching and priming. Tell the painter about known hazardous-material concerns before any surface disturbance; use a qualified assessment where needed.
Choose a finish with the room in mind
Discuss durability, washability, sheen and colour testing under the room’s own light. Record the exact product and colour specification rather than relying on a colour name alone. Ask how sample approval and additional coats affect the scope.
Plan access and completion
Discuss occupied rooms, pets, ventilation and drying time using the selected product’s instructions. Confirm the number of coats, touch-up process, cleanup and how the finished work will be reviewed. Keep written changes together with the original quote.
